mirkarimi the suspended san francisco sheriff. the board of supervisors is voting on whether to remove him from office for good. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san francisco with more on what is at stake. good morning. >>> reporter: good morning. this case has played out for months at city hall and this decision a big deal because it could set the precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to a domestic violence dispute that left his wife with a bruised arm on new year's eve. nine months later we could find out if he stays or if he goes for official misconduct. his wife eliana lopez showed her neighbor a bruised arm which you can see in this video after her husband grabbed her during an argument. mirkarimi was sentenced to three years' probation, fined and ordered to undergo counseling. he was also placed on unpaid leave by mayor ed lee. since then, mirkarimi has been fighting for his job. his attorney says that the marital incident has nothing to do with his role has sheriff and he was also voted in. mayor lee want

mirkarimi. christie smith is live in san francisco where the board of supervisors will decide the fate of the embattled sheriff. christie, this case is about a year in the making. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, marla. well, this whole ordeal finally expected to come to an end after nine months of legal wrangling and a very public drama that played out here in san francisco. later this afternoon the san francisco board of supervisors expected to finally take a vote on whether or not to remove suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi from office. it would take nine votes from the 11-member board for that to happen. mirkarimi pleaded guilty after an argument with his wife. she is a tv star from venezuela. in that argument she suffered a bruised arm. mirkarimi is on probation and in counseling and the couple has reunited and said this whole thing was politically motivated. after mirkarimi pleaded guilty, san francisco mayor ed lee suspended him, then tried to take steps to remove him from office. in august the ethics commission decided that mirkarimi had committed official m

boat. cornell bernard is live at san francisco's pier 39. we understand you have new information about the boat? >> reporter: we learning the boat was taken to sausalito last night for repairs. coastguard has a lot of degrees for the party boat's captain. it took a scary turn and hate rock and started to sink. luckily everyone is safe after being rescued by the coastguard last night. 18 men on board, all wearing life vests were taken to pier 39. it on board the neptune, 40-foot party boat. it struck rocks near alcatraz tearing two holes in the underside. there was chaos and confusing is on board. >> we were hanging out. we were on the boat for 20 minutes and then all of a sudden it was like a big jolt. next thing we knew, coastguard boat came in and got us out. >> put on your life vests and you could tell it was going down. it was taking on water. >> we were off course navigation. we just accidentally were on the inside of the buoy instead of the outside and we hit what we call little alcatraz. >> reporter: it's a shoal of rock near the island. they will talk with captain and crew why

split let's go back to the desk. >>> after political drama in san francisco, it all comes down to today for suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi. let's go to supervisors where they will finally decide his fate, tara? >> reporter: they are going to meet and take public comment and hopefully come up with a decision, hopefully there are no more delays in this process which has lasted almost a year. as you may remember, the ethics commission voted to oust sheriff ross mirkarimi. he showed up in hand with his wife eliana lopez who had flown in to be by his side. sheriff ross mirkarimi pled guilty to a false imprisonment charge. now sheriff ross mirkarimi was elected sheriff in november after serving as one of the more liberal supervise hers. advocates want sheriff ross mirkarimi out and that him overseeing the jails and domestic violence is simply a conflict of interest. officials need to be held to a higher standard and some say it is a witch hunt and they are staging a rally here and it would take nine of the 11 supervisors in order to remove him from office. i am tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2

. the children's father, an executive at cnbc, was flying back from a business trip in san francisco and was notified when he arrived in new york. the 50-year-old nanny survived the wounds to her throat. and this morning, police say she's in critical but stable condition at a nearby hospital. yoselyn ortega had reportedly worked for the family for about a year. before that, marina krim, a pediatrician, had been a stay-at-home mom. ortega has no criminal record. "the new york post" is reporting that in the screening process, the family spent nine days in the dominican republic with her family before she was hired. again, the nanny renans the hospital in stable but critical condition. she has not been formally charged because of her medical condition. she is in police custody. as this investigation continues, a family continues to grieve, as well as an entire neighborhood. amy, back to you. >> all right, john muller, thank you. there really aren't words. it's an unimaginable tragedy. >> and the parents did everything right in terms of checking out this nanny as well. so horrible. >>> w
